Vulnerable developing brain

I don't understand why women who know they are pregnant drink alcohol. They are just negligent or not educated and don't know the consequences that will happen to their unborn child. The fetus has no fault and is the one that is going to suffer for the rest of their lives. Fetal alcohol syndrome is very bad and affects the fetuses brain. They will have hyperactivity, impulsiveness, difficulty maintaining attention, mental retardation, motor problems, heart defects and facial abnormalities. If alcohol impairs are judgment it does many more things to the fetus. It impairs their judgment also but not only for a moment but for the rest of their lives. Even smoking and drugs. If it does a lot of damage to the women's body, it hurts the developing fetus even more. Women should take care of their bodies if they don't want to stop doing harm to their bodies or stop drinking or doing drugs if they want a healthy baby.

  1. I completely agree with you. I don't understand why they would do something so stupid to begin with in the first place, and its really sad because I found out that a few of these women will put those babies up for adoption because they either don't want them, something happens or whatever, but because of those women recklessness the child has to suffer once born. If those women want to party all night long and drink the night away then they shouldn't get pregnant to begin with. It really makes me upset.

  2. First of all ii agree with you, this is something that ends up harming the child; however, most women dont know they are pregnant until after a month or a month and a half in their pregnancy and thats when most of the damage has been done to the fetus. It is wreckless, but at the same time we have to understand that not every woman knows when shes pregnant until time after and then, well it may be late to try and fix things.

  3. Great topic, I took a class in comparative embryology that explained in further detail the possible effects of FAS. There are so many other things that can go wrong in early fetal development. I marvel at the fact that we and our children come out normal. Being a mother can be very frightening for some women and they do maybe they don't think it through how they are affecting a child. If these women are not being responsible during her pregnancy, how responsible can/will she be once the baby is born. Having children is a huge responsibility and not everyone is ready or capable. There are other responsible alternatives like adoption. There are people who struggle to have a baby and would be more responsible. There is lots to the subject like how it becomes a very expensive process for people to attempt to adopt. It is also a huge business for adoption agencies. Lastly, the law doesn't always remove the child from the mother's custody and if they do the child is placed in foster care. What are your thoughts on that? Is ther ways to prevent AFS prevelance in teen and adult mothers?
